2.2 (2.3)

2.2 (2.3) Present own creative ideas on a one to one basis; in a small group; to a large group

Working in a company that creates trailers for films, editors tend to ask for any brainstorming ideas or any opinions others may have on their trailer or how they should create the trailer.

For example an editor asked me to watch a trailer, however showed me it multiple types but with different choices of music in the background.
This was a discussion on a one-to-one basis, and I shared my opinion on the choice of music. I chose one particular choice as I felt it fit with the visuals the best and created the best dramatic effect in comparison to the other music choices.
Through presenting my ideas, the editor was able to make a successful decision.

Before creating a trailer an editor might have something called a brainstorming session. These are when maybe 4 or 5 people get together and discuss ideas for the trailer, any specific lines they should use or what type of music they should use.
I have been involved in two brainstorming sessions, and I was able to share with the group how I thought the film should come across to the audience.
For example, for a particular film I felt the editor should aim for emphasizing the action genre within the trailer. So I put forward the idea of fast paced shots, upbeat maybe quite rocky and epic music to accompany the shots.

As a team we were able to share our ideas, discuss them and come to a conclusion.

Recently I presented a selection of trailers that I felt were successful and interesting. I presented this to all of my colleagues (a large group) and shared my creative thoughts and ideas as to why I felt the trailers were captivating.

I chose to present a selection of the James Bond trailers, and after each one shared my thoughts on the trailer. For example, after presenting the 2002 Die another Day film with Pierce Brosnan as James Bond, I explained how I felt they were trying to reinvent James Bond as ‘cooler’ and far more modern.
My reasons included how they presented all the new gadgets multiple times in the trailer, and how the buildings and locations seemed so futuristic.

Through sharing my point and reasons and showing an example I was able to successfully share my creative media idea.
