2.1 (1.4)

2.1 (1.4) Describe methods used to communicate technical and specialist issues within and across teams
As someone who has recently entered an industry that is entirely new to me, I have had to learn a whole new jargon in a short period of time.

Multiple times I have had to ask an individual if in a way they could ‘dumb down’ their sentence, as I’ve got completely lost as to what they mean. If you are talking within your team, then using the correct technical jargon that needs to be used shouldn’t be a problem. People generally pick up on specialist words very quickly, so using them with colleagues is good practice to get used to the terms!

If you are speaking externally however, it is probably best to simplify your words.
For example, within a trailer production team we call specific files, clocks – something external companies or people may get very confused about and completely misinterpret.

If it is a client, you will want to address them in a clear and direct manner, making sure that they understand everything you are saying. To do so, if you are in a habit of using technical jargon you should prepare yourself to try and ‘dumb down’ your speech – not so much that they may feel stupid, but not too little that they will be absolutely clueless as to what you are saying.
