2.1 (1.2)

2.1(1.2) Compare a range of techniques used for influencing and persuading others and their application

In the creative Media industry, a huge part of it involves clients. Sometimes they may disagree on something you have created and you may have to reason or compromise with them. However in some situations there is need for persuading.

The technique of persuasion is essentially getting people to change their minds about a subject.
Being prepared with valid reasons is very important, as this will back up the point you are trying to get across. If you want to successfully persuade someone, they need to be somewhat convinced that you are presenting a plausible argument. If you have at least three reasons then it should make your argument seem a lot stronger than theirs, causing them to rethink their side of the argument.

Another skill to persuasion would be being mature. If you discuss the situation in a calm manner and think through what you want to say beforehand then you should feel confident enough and prepared enough to present your reasons. Staying level-headed is key, as it influences the person you are speaking to, to listen in a mature and level-headed manner.

When it comes to influencing, people generally discuss positive points about their argument. For example when it comes to advertising for trailers, we use positive reviews within the advert such as ‘Five Stars’. Through this, the individual that is watching the trailer is gradually influenced by the reviews to watch the film, making them see it in very much a strong positive light.
