2.1(1.1) Describe several communication techniques and explain their appropriate application
There are now many different ways that people can use to communicate with others who are not around them, which is a big help for companies working alongside others. These various communication techniques is the main way companies keep going and expanding. Without these techniques, companies wouldn't be able to contact a client, which means they wouldn't receive any jobs, which in turn means they wouldn't have any work.
Emailing is the most popular way of communication when it comes to industry’s talking and updating each other. Within emails you are able to contact multiple people at one time, you are able to attach important documents or files that you want sent, and are able to let people know if your email is of high importance. It’s definitely the most popular way of keeping others around you instantly updated on any project or work you are doing.
Using the phone is of course the other most popular way of communication. It enables you to have a private conversation if need be, it allows you to contact someone who may be far away and have a conversation with them etc. Many companies now supply their employees with work mobile phones, provided with contact details of other companies and may be linked to your specific work email.
Using phones also enables you to make conference calls. This is when you may have a contact who is in a faraway location and you don’t have time to get to them for a meeting involving multiple people, so you are all able to speak to each other (providing it is on loud speaker). This means you can have meetings without actually having to meet!
Another way of communication is Skype. This is a way you can visually talk to people, whether the reason be they want to show you something or some people do tend to prefer speaking when being able to see the other person. My company have used this before when asking someone to complete a Voice Over and they have been in another country. This way through Skype, we were able to see what environment they were in and match their voice with their face.
Due to Social Media rapidly growing in popularity, people are now able to communicate through websites such as Facebook or Twitter. A lot of companies now have Facebook or Twitter pages, keeping others updated on any exciting new projects or work they have coming up. Furthermore, companies are able to follow other companies, letting them know what’s new or what’s in progress, they are then able to direct message them if they wish to instantly message them.
