1.3(3.3) Describe and pitch a creative idea to an employer or commissioner
Before creating a trailer, editors have a brainstorming session, where they are able to gain different opinions from others, and learn some different interpretations of the film. When discussing we are also able to share with each other how we feel the trailer should be created or what kind of genre the editor should base the trailer around.
Through this I am able to pitch a creative idea to an editor. For example, an editor showed me a trailer and we discussed the type of music that could work very well in the trailer.
I looked at the shots included and thought of the genre of film and tried to imagine what would fit well.
As it was an action film, we discussed how an upbeat, epic piece of music would be able to lift the trailer and emphasise the action involved.
Due to my perspective, the editor was able to make a decision on how she wanted to present the trailer.
Pitching a creative idea to the editors lets them gain opinions from what is essentially a varied audience. Enabling them to create a trailer not only for the client purpose but also an audience purpose.
I shared with the editor some examples of how a fast beat would increase the intensity to the trailer, and create a ‘cooler’ and energetic feel to it.
