1.1(1.1) Describe the main types of employment status within the Creative Media Sector
Employment status within the creative media sector is divided by contract, free-lance, interns/apprenticeships, volunteering and of course full time and part times employees.
Full time employees are needed in the creative media sector, whether based in office or out, working five days a week and keeping the industry flowing. A full time employee would be working typically 40 hours a week; however part time worker hours vary. Most industries will have part time workers due to personal needs, or home arrangement.
Contracted employers differ from full/part time in that they have a set amount of time to work.
This is common within film production, if a project may occur that needs assistance, creative media employers may hire contracted workers to help specifically for that project.
Contract employees do not become consistent members of that company.
Freelancing employees are very common within creative media, something that I have frequently come across when it comes to editors.
Freelancers do not work for a single company but rather move around, and are somewhat free to choose their work. As there are a variety of projects/genres consistently progressing within media, being a freelancer gives individuals a choice to match their abilities and interests.
When it comes to volunteer working in this particular industry, it is incredibly common. For those who want a career within this business, this enables people to get a certain amount of experience and education into the world of creative media by employers getting a handy assistant without having to pay them.
Work experience and Internships are another type of insight to the career that people hope for.
This gives the employee a more involved act in the world of work, for normally a short or set period of time.
An apprenticeship, not only allows the individual to gain experience, be involved and work for a creative media company, but also allows them to gain a qualification.
This is created by the combination of full/part time work and study. The study will generally align with the work he or she is carrying out during the week.
